In The Wild (2025)
Ensemble: String Orchestra
Duration: 5’
Commissioned: by the US Army Strings for their 75th Anniversary Celebration concerts at the Kennedy Center and at Georgetown University
The Strings’ hope was for something overtly fiddle-adjacent, which feels like a substantially different project from the concerto. They are classical players, so I was glad to have a chance to experiment with ways of producing rhythmic drive in the bow arm that might mimic a more experienced fiddler’s. I referred, as often, to my hero Sam Bush’s powerfully rhythmic bow arm.
