Princeton Application 2026

UPSTREAM

is a violin-piano duo with Will Healy, and one of my biggest creative projects this year. We co-composed, recorded, and performed about 40 minutes of music. All of our pieces are 50-50 co-writes.

ROMPUS is the first single from our upcoming album.

HITS is the second.

“Full Set - Live” gives a sense of our pieces’ range.

I am proud of the variety in these tracks: of mood and texture, but also of structure. Some are simple song forms (E tune), some are more involved (Let The Record Show, Good For You), and some are in between (For Jason, Wednesday Will).

Recorded live in Carnegie’s Weill Hall, 4/23/25

Concerto for Two Violins and Viola (2025)

SCORE

Ensemble: Three soloists with chamber orchestra: two oboes, two horns, strings

Duration: 20’, three movements

Commissioned: by the New York Classical Players, premiered in 4 concerts in and around NYC

Emma Frucht, George Meyer, violins; Brian Hong, viola

Each movement has rhythmic ideas I am fond of. The first movement keeps a steady seven, though phrases play across it throughout; the last movement has a headed-home feeling through several different versions of nine. The second movement uses a melody in several speeds as its structure.

In The Wild (2025)

SCORE

Ensemble: String Orchestra

Duration: 5’

Commissioned: by the US Army Strings for their 75th Anniversary Celebration concerts at the Kennedy Center and at Georgetown University

The Strings’ hope was for something overtly fiddle-adjacent, which feels like a substantially different project from the concerto. They are classical players, so I was glad to have a chance to experiment with ways of producing rhythmic drive in the bow arm that might mimic a more experienced fiddler’s. I referred, as often, to my hero Sam Bush’s powerfully rhythmic bow arm.

Five Fiddle Tunes (2025)

SCORE

My arrangements of fiddle tunes for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra from September. Here is a fiddle sample, though it’s an unusual setting; I would recommend starting with #5, the Big Sciota, for a quick taste of the fiddle playing.

Ensemble: Solo fiddle with orchestra (2.2.2.2 - 2.2.2.0 - strings)

Duration: 16’

These are my arrangements, not my compositions. They were a useful data point as I learn more about approximating non-classical rhythm in an orchestral setting.

I’m presenting works from this year on this application, as I shared many of my major works with you on last year’s application. To revisit that portfolio click here.
